Who Plows My Roads?

Weather Update

It’s that time of the year again. You will begin seeing snowplows on roads as inclement weather approaches our area. This is a good reminder to know who exactly maintains and plows each road within Town, specifically yours! Plainfield DPW is responsible for main and side streets within Town limits. For example: Ronald Reagan Parkway, Quaker Boulevard, Perry Road and Stafford Road.

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is responsible for numbered state roads and highways. For example: U.S. 40 and I-70.

Hendricks County Highway Department is responsible for county roads outside of incorporated areas. For example: S. C.R. 600 E. and S. C.R. 625 E.

Private contractors are responsible for varies roadways and driveways. For example: Private driveways, residential communities and parking lots.

No matter who is on the road, this is a good reminder to follow these tips:

•  Don’t crowd the plow.

•  Plows travel slower than other vehicles.

•  Reduce your speed and try to stay at least 100 feet away from all plows.

•  Don’t pass snowplow vehicles while they’re plowing.

Visibility is already limited and plow drivers want to avoid any and all dangerous situations.

If you have questions or concerns about plowing, please call Plainfield's Department of Public Works at (317) 839-3490.
