Plainfield Announces Executive Director of Public Safety

PLAINFIELD, Ind. – The Town of Plainfield is pleased to announce that Jared McKee has been appointed as the Town’s Executive Director of Public Safety. The Executive Director of Public Safety serves as the Director of Emergency Management and the primary focus is the oversight of public safety departments including, Police, Fire and 911 Communications.

“Over the course of the pandemic, we learned the coordination of our emergency management functions is key for effective service to the public. Providing our community with reliable and efficient services is our highest priority, and we are continuously evaluating and improving our operations,” said Robin Brandgard, Town Council President. “Filling the position of Executive Director of Public Safety has been a priority for a couple of years now. Chief McKee has shown superior leadership and we know he has the skills and expertise to lead all of our public safety departments.”

McKee has served the Plainfield Police Department since 2000 and is currently the Chief of Police. He has an extensive law enforcement background. He worked in the Jail Division of the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department from 1998 to 2000 and after graduation of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, McKee began his now 20-years of service as a member of the Plainfield Police Department. McKee has been a member of the PPD Bike Patrol, Emergency Response Team and has advanced through all ranks of the department.

Jared will be retiring as an officer before taking this new position with the Town’s Administrative Department.

McKee is originally from Monrovia, Indiana and is a Plainfield High School graduate. After graduation, McKee joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve where he served for nine years, ultimately completing active duty at the rank of Sergeant. While in the Marines, he was deployed to Iraq in 2004 and served during Operation Iraqi Freedom I & II campaigns.

“It has been my greatest honor to serve as the 9th Chief of Police for the Town of Plainfield,” said McKee. “I look forward to continuing my service to the Town of Plainfield and all Public Safety employees.”

The Town of Plainfield will begin the search for a new Police Chief. Deputy Chief Kyle Prewitt has been named the Interim Chief of Police and Lieutenant Joe Smock has been named the Interim Deputy Chief of Operations.
