Police Officer

The Plainfield Metropolitan Police Department is once again seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of full-time police officer. Our recruitment process currently has four to seven full-time openings for 2007-2008 as well as openings for Reserve Officer.

Plainfield is located west of Indianapolis on US 40, bordered by I-70 to the south and Raceway Road to the east which provides a great deal of traffic in our area. We are still a small town community with about 23,000 residents and have a force of 45 full-time officers and 10 reserve officers. The Town of Plainfield offers an employment package of $33,670 for probationary officers which increases to $36,998 for second-class officers and $43,420 for first-class officers. The town also offers a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision insurance. The department offers a take-home car program for all full-time officers who are in compliance with the residency policy.

The general duties of a patrol officer include: response to scenes of crimes and accidents; patrol all streets in the town limits for the purpose of traffic enforcement; detecting and deterring crime while responding to calls for service at any time on this patrol, enforce all Town, State and Federal Ordinances and laws; maintain all requirements for training; maintain good public relations with citizens and community agencies; adhere to the rules and regulations of the department; render assistance or initiate an arrest for the safety of the officer and the community while in an off-duty capacity; maintain a respect for supervisors while keeping a good rapport with other officers; knowledgeable use of all department forms.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. and must be able to pass all phases of the hiring process in order to be eligible for employment. Minorities and females are encouraged to apply.

HIRING PROCESS - From the date of the Written Examination to the swearing in of the newly hired officer, it takes approximately 4 months to complete the process.

Deadline for applications in the current process is June 25, 2007 by 5:00 PM. All applications must received after that date will be kept on file for one year and destroyed at that time unless the application is updated and the applicant requests that the application be kept for one more year. The written and agility test will be given on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 8:00 AM at the Plainfield High School.
